About our School: 

ACT School is a registered independent school that supports students from the ages of 11-16 years who have been referred to us due to either having been or are at risk of being excluded from mainstream education, who are school phobic or are classed as vulnerable.

About the role: 

We are seeking a passionate and proactive Inclusion Support Officer to join our team. In this role, you will help identify learners who may require additional support and assist staff in planning, implementing, and reviewing personalised, learner-centred strategies. You will play a key role in promoting inclusive teaching environments and championing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) across our provisions.

Your primary focus will be working with pre-16 learners within the school setting, but you will also provide inclusion and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) support to staff delivering the post-16 Jobs Growth Wales+ programme.

As part of a collaborative team, you will work closely with the Head of 11-16 Education and the Inclusion Manager/ALNCO to ensure every learner has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

This role will be based at Ocean Park House but will require travel around centres to support learners.

What we need from you: 

  1. Teaching experience in a school or relevant setting
  2. Level 7 JCQ Access Arrangement Assessor or willingness to complete this training within 1 year (Desirable)
  3. 2 years’ experience of teaching learners with additional learning needs
  4. Experience of identifying learning support needs and developing support strategies/interventions
  5. Experience of working with learners with Behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties
  6. Experience of multi-agency working
  7. PGCE or relevant Level 7 qualification
  8. An understanding of the legislation for Additional Learning Needs in Wales and statutory duties placed on schools and local authorities.
  9. Knowledge, understanding and experience of supporting/teaching individuals with additional learning needs.
  10. An understanding of inclusive learning practices, EDI and The Equality Act 2010
  11. The ability to lead and champion inclusion/inclusive practice within the school

The role will include but not limited to: 

  1. Assist in identifying learners who require additional learning provision.
  2. Collaborate with delivery staff and the ALNCO to maintain accurate learner progress records and provide data for ALN assessments.
  3. Help allocate learning support staff to meet learner needs across the setting.
  4. Promote inclusive learning environments and continuously develop inclusive practices within schools and the JGW+ programme.
  5. Collate and prepare information for Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and annual reviews, and assist with their regular updates.
  6. Provide training and guidance to staff on the Additional Learning Needs Code of Practice for Wales and relevant Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) topics.
  7. Address safeguarding and well-being concerns with sensitivity to ensure learners are effectively supported.
  8. Establish positive relationships with learners, families, and external professionals to promote a multi-agency approach to supporting learner needs.
  9. Offer guidance to parents/carers on available support and services.
  10. Assist with diagnostic assessments and examination access arrangements, ensuring compliance with awarding body requirements.
  11. Implement and manage the Edukey Provision Maps software to track learner progress, targets, and interventions.
  12. Monitor and report the effectiveness of intervention groups on learner outcomes.
  13. Ensure the school adheres to ALN regulations for Wales and that learners receive appropriate provisions and support.
  14. Manage the ordering, preparation, and maintenance of specialist equipment and software for learners.
