About our School: 

ACT School is a registered independent school that supports students from the ages of 11-16 years who have been referred to us due to either having been or are at risk of being excluded from mainstream education, who are school phobic or are classed as vulnerable.

About the role:

We are looking for a positive, caring individual who is passionate about supporting pupils who encounter challenging behaviours within ACT Schools to reach their full potential. You will be enthusiastic and patient and will have a full understanding of behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.

You will be expected to plan and deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment in line with ESTYN requirements. You will be responsible for the delivery of our core curriculum which focuses on wellbeing, Maths & English, to group sizes of approximately 7, 11–16-year-olds.

Your aim will be to develop the numeracy levels of all our learners to prepare them for their exams in GCSE Mathematics and Numeracy and supporting leaners in completing the Essential Skills Wales.

The successful candidate will have a full appreciation of the importance of personal growth and wellbeing, with a willingness to develop inclusive lessons that are reflective of pupil need and current priorities.

The successful candidate will have a strong focus on experiential learning, enriching the opportunities inside and outside the classroom, providing alternative approaches to education.

ACT is committed to promoting the Welsh language for both staff and learners, and whilst it is not considered essential criteria, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role.

What we need from you: 

  1. PGCE or equivalent
  2. Relevant subject qualification
  3. Delivery and knowledge of GCSE curriculum area with specific focus on engaging low level ability pupils
  4. Knowledge of Essential Skills Wales
  5. Experience of working with pupils with Additional Learning Needs i.e. ADHD, Dyslexia etc
  6. Experience of working with challenging, disengaged pupils and challenging inappropriate behaviour
  7. Experience of providing enrichment and personal growth opportunities to young people with a focus on experiential learning
  8. Have a good and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them
  9. Experience of leading on outdoor learning incentives

The role will include but not limited to: 

  1. Learner Support and Development: You will be responsible for supporting approximately 7 learners, who may have challenging behaviours, develop enrichment activities. You will be expected to support delivery of high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in line with Estyn requirements 

 

  1. Professional Development and Contribution: You will contribute to curriculum development, insight days, and strategic plans to enhance the learner's experience. You will be able to develop your own CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and skills through sector, awarding body, and internal training.
